EMPHASIS: Upcoming Troop A DWI Enforcement Operations

Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, Lee's Summit, announces several traffic enforcement operations will be conducted during the month of September.
During the month of September the Missouri State Highway Patrol, along with the Kansas City Police Department, will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint in Clay County. In addition, there will be DWI saturations conducted in Henry, Cass, Benton, and Platte counties. These operations are an effort by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies to remove intoxicated drivers from Missouri's highways. The checkpoint locations have been identified as having a high number of alcohol-related contacts. During the saturations, members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol will concentrate their efforts on highways which have been found to have a higher number of alcohol-related crashes and enforcement contacts.
Drivers approaching the checkpoint should carefully follow the directions posted on signs and watch for signals from traffic control officers. Upon contact with officers, drivers will be asked to produce their driver license as well as proof of insurance. Normally the wait experienced by drivers is less than five minutes. Unless officers suspect drinking or other violations of Missouri law, most drivers will not be asked to exit their vehicles.
Captain Powell stated, "Do not let your life or someone else's life be ruined by an alcohol-related crash or arrest. Troop A officers are dedicated to removing intoxicated drivers from Missouri's highways."
