EMPHASIS: Troop I Prepares For Thanksgiving Weekend Travel

Captain Lee Ann H. Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces that Troop I officers will again be participating in three special enforcement operations during the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend travel period. The goal of each operation is to make our highways safer by reducing the number of traffic crashes. Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) is a national effort by law enforcement agencies, whereby manpower is concentrated on traffic enforcement over major holiday weekends. In addition to participating in this program, Troop I officers will also be involved in the 20-Mile Trooper enforcement operation on Interstate 44. This detail will be utilized on both Wednesday, November 23, 2011, and Sunday, November 27, 2011, during designated peak travel times. The objectives of the troopers assigned to this detail will be vigorous enforcement of all traffic laws and to be in close proximity for quick response to any motorist who might need assistance. During peak travel times on November 23, 2011 and November 27, 2011, teams of troopers will also be assigned to patrol secondary routes within Troop I known to have a high crash rate. The intent remains to maximize visibility to reduce the number of traffic crashes.
Captain Kenley stated, “The busy holiday season is here and many Missourians will be taking this opportunity to see family and friends. I want to encourage motorists to be extra cautious on our highways. Keep in mind that the best way to avoid a traffic crash is to always pay attention, slow down, and to never drive when impaired.”
