EMPHASIS: Troop D Announces Results Of Enforcement Saturation On The Niangua River

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, announces the results of a water enforcement saturation in Dallas County on the Niangua River on Saturday, July 18, 2015. The goal of this enforcement operation was to detect intoxicated boaters and other violations that contribute to boating crashes and drownings. Also, the enforcement location was selected based on the high number of drinking- and impairment-related boating crashes, in addition to reported behavioral problems, illegal drug usage, and underage alcohol consumption.

The following is a list of enforcement contacts made by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Department of Conservation during the saturation on the Niangua River:

Total Number Of Contacts -- 230
Total Boating Citations -- 15
Personal Flotation Device Violations -- 2
Littering/Unsecure Trash Violations -- 7
Minor In Possession Violations -- 2
Possession Of Glass Container Violation -- 1
Misdemeanor Drug Arrests -- 3
Warnings -- 46

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
