EMPHASIS: Fourth Of July Holiday Totals For Troop A
Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, Lee’s Summit, announces the totals for the Fourth of July holiday weekend for the 13-county troop. The counting period began on 6 p.m., Thursday, July 2, and ended at 11:59 p.m., on Sunday, July 5, 2009.
Members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Troop A investigated a total of 40 crashes. Two fatalities and 14 injuries were reported in the 40 crashes. Alcohol was a contributing factor in four crashes.
Troopers arrested 17 subjects for driving while intoxicated, and issued 166 speed citations, 50 seat belt citations, and three child restraint violations. In addition, members of the Highway Patrol assisted 160 motorists during the counting period.
Captain Powell stated, “Our goal is to make traveling on Missouri’s highways safe for everyone. Remember to do your part. Obey the speed limit, pay attention to the job of driving, always buckle your seat belt, and if you are going to drink, please do not drive.”
