EMPHASIS: June Enforcement Projects Scheduled For Troop D

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, Springfield, announces several traffic enforcement operations that will be conducted sometime during the month of June 2010. A driving while intoxicated saturation will be held in Newton County in which troopers will concentrate their efforts on highways which have been found to have a higher number of alcohol-related crashes and enforcement contacts. In Dallas County, troopers will conduct a sobriety checkpoint. At the checkpoint, drivers will be stopped at a static location and upon contact with the officers, will be asked to produce their driver’s license and proof of insurance. Normally, the wait at a checkpoint is less than five minutes. Unless officers suspect drinking or other violations, most drivers will not be asked to exit their vehicles.

In addition, troopers will be conducting a hazardous moving violations project in Lawrence County sometime during the month of June. The primary goal of this project is to positively impact traffic problems by reducing crashes. The objectives are to heighten the awareness of the risks associated with impaired driving and increase compliance of the speed limit and seat belt laws.

Finally, in conjunction with the Missouri State Water Patrol, during the months of June, July, and August, troopers will conduct four enforcement saturation projects in Dallas County. The projects will focus on littering, minors in possession of alcohol, enforcement of drug laws, and impaired drivers.
