EMPHASIS: Troop C Prepares For Thanksgiving Holiday Travel
Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, Weldon Spring, announces that Troop C officers, will be conducting two projects throughout the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, in an effort to promote safety and to reduce the number of crashes in the Troop C area. Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) will be conducted on Interstates 270, 70, 64, 55, 44, and U.S. Highway 40/61. In addition, on Wednesday, November 24, 2010, and Sunday, November 28, 2010, Troop C will run special enforcement operations on Interstates 70, 44 and U.S. Highway 40/61, as well as some secondary roadways.
Over the past several years, the Patrol has experienced great success in traffic crash and fatality reduction on the interstate highways with the 10- and 15-mile Trooper Operations on the heavily traveled holiday weekends. While the Patrol will still have a presence on the interstate highways throughout Missouri over the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend, shifting some of those troopers to U.S. and secondary highways will give the Patrol a noticeable presence and afford the opportunity to expand the crash and fatality reduction to those corridors.
The Thanksgiving holiday counting period begins at 6 p.m., on Wednesday, November 24, 2010, and will continue until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 28, 2010.
Currently, Missouri is experiencing an eight percent reduction in traffic fatalities compared to the same time period last year, and the Patrol is committed to continuing crash and fatality reduction through our education and enforcement efforts.
“The Thanksgiving holiday weekend is the busiest holiday of the year," said Captain Johnson. "We hope that by conducting these special enforcement projects, we will make our presence known, and help reduce the number of traffic crashes."
