EMPHASIS: Troop H To Participate In Operation Lifesaver's Officer On A Train Program

Captain Duane L. Robinson, commanding officer of Troop H, St. Joseph, announces on April 19, 2013, Troop H and the St. Joseph Police Department will be working with members of Missouri Operation Lifesaver in Buchanan County. The enforcement program places an officer in a Burlington Northern and Santa Fe train engine to observe crossing violations. The information of a violation is then passed to officers in patrol vehicles, who will stop the violator and take enforcement action.
Buchanan County has been selected because it is one of 13 counties in Missouri with elevated crossing crashes. Since 2011, seven crossing crashes have occurred in Buchanan County. As a result of these crashes, one person died and three others were seriously injured. To help curb this trend, the three agencies will work together in an attempt to end violations at crossings.
For more information on Operation Lifesaver, contact Rick Mooney, Missouri Operation Lifesaver state coordinator, at 573-634-4113 or cellular 573-230-3284. For additional information and statistics, please visit the state website at www.ShowMeOL.org or the national website at www.oli.org.
