EMPHASIS: Results Of Crawford County Spotcheck

A total of 37 arrests were made and 60 warnings issued as a result of a sobriety checkpoint held in Crawford County, July 6, 2007. The spotcheck was conducted from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Missouri Highway 8, near the entrance to the Steelville City Park. The arrest totals for the spotcheck included three arrests for driving while intoxicated, five arrests for a minor possessing an alcoholic beverage and one arrest for an outstanding felony warrant. Traffic arrests during the operation included 10 citations for failure to wear a seat belt, one for a hazardous moving violation, seven for non-moving traffic offenses, seven for driver’s license violations, and three for not having proper vehicle insurance. Assisting the Highway Patrol at the spotcheck were officers from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department and the Steelville Police Department.
Captain Randy L. Becker, commanding officer of Troop I, would again like to encourage motorists, as they embark on their summer trips, to obey all the rules of the road and to always remember to buckle up. Captain Becker stated, “Fastening a seat belt is a two-second task that may very well save your life or prevent you from sustaining a needless injury.”
