EMPHASIS: Troop A To Participate In "UP CARES" Officer On A Train Enforcement Program

Captain Scott A. Shipers, commanding officer of Troop A, Lee’s Summit, announces on June 15, 2016, Troop A and the Union Pacific Railroad Police Department will be working with Missouri Operation Lifesaver, in Pettis County. The enforcement program places an officer in a Union Pacific train engine to observe crossing violations. The information of a violation is then passed to officers in patrol vehicles, who will stop the violator and take enforcement action.

Pettis County has been selected because of the number of rail grade crossings, crossing incidents, and the potential for crossing crashes. Reported unsafe motorists actions and trespassing incidents have been on the increase. To help curb this trend, the two agencies will work together in an attempt to end violations at crossings. “See Tracks Think Train.”

For more information on Operation Lifesaver, contact Tim Hull, Missouri Operation Lifesaver state coordinator, at 573-694-6412. For additional information and statistics, please visit the national website at www.oli.org.

The only 100 percent survivable traffic crash is the one that never happens. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Every day as we travel on Missouri’s roadways, we trust that every driver on the road is going to obey the speed limit, pay attention, and drive sober. “Don’t Violate The Trust.”
