EMPHASIS: Marijuana Seizure On I-44 In Greene County

On October 28, 2007, a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper stopped an eastbound vehicle for exceeding the posted speed limit. The stop and subsequent investigation resulted in the seizure of 75 pounds of marijuana.
At approximately 8:39 a.m., a 2007 Chrysler was stopped near the 83-mile marker in Greene County for a speeding violation. Due to inconsistencies found during conversations with the driver the trooper asked for consent to search the vehicle. Consent was denied. A Patrol K-9 was used and indicated a positive response at the trunk of the vehicle. Inside the trunk was found a suitcase containing three bundles of marijuana with a total weight of 75 pounds.
The driver, Mari J. Chamberlain, 53, of Roselle, IL, was arrested for illegal possession of marijuana.
The charge for which Mari J. Chamberlain was arrested is mere accusation and is not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charge must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence.
