EMPHASIS: Troop B Labor Day Holiday Traffic Crash And Enforcement Totals

Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces the 2015 Labor Day weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop B area, which consists of the 16 northeast counties of Missouri. During the holiday weekend, troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort), and a special enforcement operation on U.S. Highways 24, 61, and 63 throughout the Troop B area, on Friday, September 4, 2015, and Monday, September 7, 2015.
During the 2015 Labor Day weekend traffic crash counting period, which began at 6 p.m., Friday, September 4, 2015, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Monday, September 7, 2015, Troop B officers investigated nine traffic crashes resulting in six injuries, but no fatalities. Preliminary enforcement totals show officers issued 403 citations for exceeding the speed limit, 73 citations for seat belt violations, and 899 warnings, made one arrest for boating while intoxicated and made seven arrests for driving while intoxicated. Officers assisted 236 motorists during the holiday weekend. There were two boating crashes with no injuries in the Troop B area during the holiday weekend.
“Even though this major holiday period has ended, we want to urge motorists to continue to drive safely and always wear their seat belts,” stated Captain Wilt.
Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
