EMPHASIS: Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend Traffic Crash And C.A.R.E. Totals For Troop I
Captain Lee Ann Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the Thanksgiving weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop I area, which consists of six south-central counties in Missouri. The five-day counting period began at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2008, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Sunday November 30, 2008.
During the 2008 Thanksgiving holiday weekend, Troop I officers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort). As a result of the long holiday weekend, Troop I officers investigated 37 traffic crashes, which resulted in 17 injuries and two fatalities. Troopers also made eight arrests for driving while intoxicated, issued 135 speed citations and 46 citations for failure to wear a seat belt, and assisted 79 motorists.
Captain Kenley stated, “The busy holiday season is here and many Missourians will be taking this opportunity to see family and friends. I want to encourage motorists to be extra cautious on our highways. Keep in mind that the best way to avoid a traffic crash is to always pay attention, slow down, and to never drive when impaired.”
