EMPHASIS: Colonel Ron Replogle Announces Promotions

Colonel Ron Replogle, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces the following promotions effective November 1, 2013:

Lieutenant Norman A. Murphy is being promoted to the rank of captain and designated director of the Gaming Division, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, MO.

Murphy was appointed to the Patrol on July 5, 1987, as a member of the 59th Recruit Class. Upon graduating from the Patrol's Law Enforcement Academy, he was assigned to Troop C, Zone 5, Pike County. Murphy was promoted to corporal on September 1, 1993, and designated assistant zone supervisor of Troop C, Zone 5, Lincoln/Pike counties. He was promoted to sergeant and designated zone supervisor of Troop C, Zone 17, Lincoln/Pike counties, on June 1, 1998. He transferred to Troop C Headquarters, Weldon Spring, MO, on May 1, 2008. Murphy was promoted to lieutenant on April 1, 2010, and remained at Troop C Headquarters.

Captain Murphy grew up in Kirkwood, MO, and graduated from Kirkwood High School in June 1981. He earned a bachelor's of science degree in criminal justice administration at Central Missouri State University (now University of Central Missouri) in Warrensburg, MO, in May 1986. Captain Murphy and his wife, Sherry (Davis), have three children: Brian, Ashley, and Tara.


Sergeant Dorothy E. Taylor is being promoted to the rank of lieutenant and assigned to the Professional Standards Division, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, MO.

Taylor began her career with the Patrol on June 1, 1996, as a telecommunicator at Troop I, Rolla. She was appointed to the Patrol Academy on January 1, 1999, as a member of the 76th Recruit Class. Upon graduating from the Patrol's Law Enforcement Academy, she was assigned to Troop I, Zone 4, Pulaski County. On January 9, 2005, she was promoted to corporal and designated assistant zone supervisor of Zone 4, Pulaski County. Taylor transferred to the Division of Drug and Crime Control, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, on October 14, 2007, and was assigned to the unit in the Troop I area. On January 1, 2011, she was promoted to sergeant and remained in the Division of Drug and Crime Control.

Lt. Taylor grew up in St. James, MO, and graduated from John F. Hodge High School in St. James, in May 1976. She earned an associate's of science degree in criminal justice administration from Mineral Area College in 1999. She earned both a bachelor's of arts degree and a master's of science degree in criminal justice administration from Columbia College in 2005 and 2009, respectively. Lt. Taylor and her husband, Bruce, have one son, Anthony, and two granddaughters.
