EMPHASIS: Troop I Announces Thanksgiving Holiday Traffic Crash And Arrest Totals

Captain Lee Ann H. Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the Thanksgiving weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop I area, which consists of six counties in South Central Missouri. The counting period began at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2011, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Sunday, November 27, 2011.
During the 2011 Thanksgiving holiday weekend, Troop I officers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort). On Wednesday and Sunday, during peak travel times, Troop I officers also participated in the 20-Mile Trooper campaign on Interstate 44, and dedicated additional manpower to patrolling secondary highways. While participating in these operations, Troop I officers investigated 27 traffic crashes, which resulted in eight injuries and no fatalities. Troopers also made 10 arrests for DWI and five arrests for drug offenses. Troop I officers issued 329 citations for speed, 87 citations for failure to wear a seat belt, and four citations for not having a child in a proper passenger restraint system. Over the extended holiday period, troopers also issued 554 warnings for various traffic offenses and assisted 131 motorists.
Captain Kenley stated, “I hope the remainder of the holiday season is both safe and joyful for you and your family. Please remember, as you travel Missouri’s roads and highways, if you need to report a traffic crash, observe a serious traffic violation, or want to report an emergency, dial *55 on your cellular phone to contact the nearest Missouri State Highway Patrol troop headquarters.”
