EMPHASIS: Troop E Prepares For The Labor Day Holiday Weekend

Captain George E. Ridens, commanding officer of Troop E, Poplar Bluff, announces that on Friday, September 2, and on Monday September 5, 2011, Troop E officers will take part in the 20-Mile Trooper project in an effort to promote safety and reduce the number of crashes in the Troop E area. This means Troop E will post a trooper every 20 miles on Interstates 55 and 57, and on other selected secondary roads. The objective of the project is to place a trooper in close proximity of motorists who may need assistance and to aggressively enforce all traffic violations which may contribute to unsafe traveling conditions.

Missouri is currently experiencing a 10% reduction in traffic fatalities compared to the same time period last year, and the Patrol is committed to continuing crash and fatality reduction through our education and enforcement efforts.

Captain Ridens said, “This weekend is the traditional end of the summer season and we will make every effort to keep the motoring public safe during their travels. Our goal is to make traveling on Missouri’s highways safer for everyone. Obey the speed limit, always buckle your seat belt, and if you are going to drink, please do not drive.”

The Missouri State Highway Patrol urges all citizens to report any vehicle they observe operating in a careless manner. The public can contact the Highway Patrol toll-free at 1-800-525-5555 or on their cellular phone at *55.
