EMPHASIS: Labor Day Weekend Operations For Troop D

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, Springfield, announces increased enforcement operations during the Labor Day holiday travel period. Throughout the weekend, troopers within Troop D and throughout the state will be participating in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort). In conjunction with Operation C.A.R.E., Troop D will also be participating in the statewide 20-Mile Trooper Project during the peak travel periods on Friday, September 2, and Monday, September 5. During that operation, Troop D will have troopers assigned to 20-mile stretches of Interstate 44. Also, the Patrol will increase its presence on other, selected highways throughout the troop, in order to provide a safe traveling environment.

“The Labor Day weekend traditionally marks the end of the summer season, and for many families, this means traveling. These enforcement initiatives are developed and implemented to ensure the safety of the motoring public,” stated Captain Juan Villanueva. “Remember to do your part and don't become another statistic. Obey the speed limit, pay attention to the job of driving, always buckle your seat belt, and if you are going to drink, please do not drive.”

Should you find yourself in need of assistance, or observe another motorist operating a vehicle in an unsafe manner, contact your local law enforcement agency or contact the Missouri State Highway Patrol at 1-800-525-5555 or *55 on a cellular phone.
