Captain Lee Ann H. Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the results of two special enforcement operations conducted by Troop I officers thus far in the month of May.
On May 1, 2009, five troopers were assigned to a saturation patrol in Phelps County, which emphasized the detection of alcohol- or drug-impaired drivers. During that eight-hour operation troopers issued 54 traffic citations and warned motorists for 43 other violations. The arrests for the traffic violations are as follows:
Speed: 41
Failure To Wear A Seat Belt: 4
Commercial Vehicle Hazardous Moving: 1
Non-Moving Traffic Violations: 3
Driver’s License Violations: 5
On May 5, 2009, two troopers conducted a saturation patrol in Crawford County, which emphasized the detection of any hazardous moving violation. During that eight-hour operation troopers issued 28 traffic citations and warned motorists for an additional 37 violations. The traffic arrests totals for that enforcement operation are as follows:
Speed: 19
Failure To Wear A Seat Belt: 2
Non-Moving Traffic Violations: 1
Driver’s License Violations: 2
Uninsured Motorists: 4
“Thus far in 2009,” Captain Kenley stated, “the six-county Troop I area has recorded five traffic fatalities. Although this is substantially less than the 14 fatalities that had been recorded last year by this date within Troop I, it is still five too many. I again want to encourage everyone to always obey the rules of the road and to buckle-up. As is being shown, we can work together to make our roads safer.”
