EMPHASIS: Results Of Truck Check
Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, Lee's Summit, announces the results of the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) truck check, which was conducted from May 4 through May 6, 2010. This operation was conducted by commercial vehicle enforcement troopers, commercial vehicle enforcement officers, and commercial vehicle inspectors from Troops A, B, C, D, G, and H. The operation was a joint effort with officers from the Kansas City Police Department’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit.
The goal of the operation was to remove unsafe commercial vehicles and unqualified or impaired drivers from Missouri roadways. Officers set up numerous checkpoints around the Kansas City metropolitan area and stopped commercial vehicles to conduct random driver and vehicle inspections.
During the three day operation, officers performed 721 inspections with 836 violations discovered. There were 121 vehicles and 21 drivers placed out-of-service. In addition, officers issued 203 citations and 623 warnings.
Captain Powell stated, "The truck checks are part of the continuing effort by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies to remove unsafe commercial vehicles and unqualified or impaired drivers from our roadways."
