Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted on Friday evening, June 21, 2013. The checkpoint was a joint effort with the Kansas City Missouri Police Department and the Platte County Sheriff’s Department. The checkpoint was held from 11 p.m. on Friday, June 21, to 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, and was located at Missouri Highway 152 at Platte Purchase Drive. The location was determined by past arrests, incidents, and traffic crashes within Platte County.

A total of 1,021 cars were checked during this four and a half hour operation and members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Kansas City Missouri Police Department and the Platte County Sheriff’s Department made the following arrests:

12 -- DWI
4 -- Driving while suspended/revoked arrests
1 -- No valid Operator’s License
3 -- Misdemeanor drug arrests
2 -- Drug paraphernalia arrests

Captain Powell stated, "Statistics indicate every two hours and thirty minutes someone in Missouri is killed or injured in an alcohol-related crash.
