EMPHASIS: One Fatality During The Memorial Day Holiday
Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, Lee's Summit, announces one fatality occurred in Troop A over the holiday weekend. Troop A is comprised of 13 counties in West Central Missouri. The one fatality traffic crash was investigated by the Highway Patrol in Ray County. During the Memorial Day holiday weekend 17 people were arrested for driving while intoxicated and troopers investigated 43 crashes resulting in 20 injuries. The counting period began at 6 p.m. Friday, May 28, 2010, and lasted through 11:59 p.m. Monday, May 31, 2010.
A driving while intoxicated saturation was conducted also over the holiday weekend in Lafayette County, which resulted in a driving while intoxicated arrest, a hazardous moving violation citation, and a seat belt citation. Troopers also issued 17 warnings.
The 10-Mile Trooper project, Click-It-Or -Ticket, and an increased presence of law enforcement on the highways are credited with saving lives in Troop A over the Memorial Day holiday.
Captain Powell stated, "The officers assigned to Troop A are committed to making our highways safe for our citizens, and the citizens traveling through Missouri. Please take the job of driving seriously. Do not drink and drive, obey the speed limit, pay attention, and buckle up."
