EMPHASIS: Troop D--Results Of DWI Sobriety Checkpoints In Greene And Jasper Counties

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, Springfield, announces the results of DWI checkpoints conducted in Greene County on Friday, September 12, 2014, and Jasper County on Saturday, September 13, 2014.

During the operation in Greene County, officers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol stopped 437 vehicles. The following is a list of enforcement contacts made during the operation:

4 --DWI arrests
3 --Failure To Wear Seat Belt Citations
1-- Following Too Close Violation
17--Driver License Violations
1--Insurance Violation
14--Non-Moving Traffic Offenses
8--Misdemeanor Warrant Arrests
3--Felony Warrant Arrests

Officers also issued 51 warnings for various other traffic violations during the operation.

The operation in Jasper County was conducted by troopers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, along with officers from the Jasper County Sheriff's Department, the Joplin Police Department, and the Jasper County DWI Checkpoint Task Force. During the checkpoint, officers stopped 653 vehicles. The following is a list of enforcement contacts made during the operation:

Additionally, officers issued 20 warnings for other traffic violations during the operation.

"The objective of DWI enforcement projects is to deter drinking and driving and to make citizens aware that drinking and driving will not be tolerated," stated Captain Villanueva. The Missouri State Highway Patrol urges all citizens to report any vehicle they observe operating in a careless manner. In support of "The Drive To ZERO Highway Deaths," the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
