EMPHASIS: Troop D Reports Zero Fatalities During Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, Springfield, announces the Thanksgiving holiday traffic crash report for the Troop D area. During the holiday period, troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) and the "20-Mile Trooper" project. The 2011 Thanksgiving holiday traffic crash counting period began at 6 p.m., on Wednesday, November 23, 2011, and ended at 11:59 p.m., on Sunday, November 27, 2011. Troop D officers made 27 DWI arrests and investigated 41 traffic crashes, in which there were 12 injuries and zero fatalities. Also, there were no boating incidents reported during this counting period.

Over the same holiday period last year, officers assigned to Troop D made 17 DWI arrests and investigated 70 crashes, which resulted in 17 injuries and two fatalities.

"I am pleased to announce there were no fatalities in Troop D over the holiday period. As we approach the winter driving season, we continue to urge motorists to always pay attention, slow down, and to never drive while impaired, " stated Captain Villanueva.
