EMPHASIS: Traffic Stop In Lafayette County Results In Drug Arrest
On February 3, 2010, a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper stopped the driver of an eastbound vehicle on Interstate 70 in Lafayette County for a traffic violation. After discovering several indicators of criminal activity, consent to search the vehicle was requested by the trooper, but denied. A Missouri State Highway Patrol K9 was used and positively alerted on the vehicle. A roadside search resulted in the seizure of approximately two pounds of marijuana, 168 grams of hashish, and $3,468 in cash.
Both occupants, Charles D. Wilson, of Crested Butte, CO, and Kendall Pearson, of Lamar, CO, were arrested for felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and transported to Lafayette County Sheriff's Department.
The charges for which Charles D. Wilson and Kendall Pearson were arrested are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence.
