EMPHASIS: Holiday Totals For Troop C

Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, Weldon Spring, announces the traffic crash totals for Christmas and New Year’s holiday counting period for the Troop C area. During the Christmas holiday counting period, which began at 6 p.m., on Thursday, December 23, 2010, and ended 11:59 on Sunday, December 26, 2010, Troop C officers investigated 68 crashes, 22 of which resulted in injuries, with no fatalities. Troop C officers made six driving while intoxicated arrests.

During the New Year’s counting period, which began at 6 p.m., Friday, December 31, 2010, and ended at 11:59 on Sunday, January 2, 2011, Troop C officers investigated 28 crashes, four of which resulted in injuries, with no fatalities. During this time, Troop C officers made 15 driving while intoxicated arrests.

During 2010, Troop C saw an approximate nine percent increase in traffic fatalities compared to 2009. During 2010, 124 individuals were killed in traffic related crashes in the Troop C area as compared with 2009, which had 116 fatal traffic crashes.

"We had a successful holiday counting period with no traffic related fatalities," stated Captain Johnson. "We must continue our aggressive enforcement efforts into the New Year. It is hoped we’ll see a decrease in fatalities for 2011.”
