EMPHASIS: Troop B Enforcement Efforts Planned Over The 2016 Memorial Day Weekend

Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces upcoming plans for Troop B officers to participate in Operation C.A.R.E. and peak travel crash reduction enforcement programs over the 2016 Memorial Day weekend.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol will be participating in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) during the long holiday weekend. This means every available officer will be on the road enforcing traffic laws and assisting motorists.

Additionally, Troop B officers will be conducting a peak travel crash reduction operation on U.S. Highways 24, 61, and 63 throughout the Troop B area on May 27, 2016, and May 30, 2016. During this enforcement program, extra troopers will be assigned to these heavily traveled roadways in an effort to step up traffic enforcement with a goal of reducing traffic crashes over the holiday weekend. This year's Memorial Day weekend counting period is from 6 p.m., on Friday, May 27, 2016, to 11:59 p.m. on Monday, May 30, 2016.

Troopers will also be out in full force on area lakes and rivers promoting safety on our beautiful waterways.

“Memorial Day is the first long holiday weekend of the year and many people will be traveling on Missouri roadways,” stated Captain Wilt. “I would like to urge all motorists to make sure safe driving is a part of your plans. Make sure everyone is wearing a seat belt, and never drink and drive."

The only 100 percent survivable traffic crash is the one that never happens. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Every day as we travel on Missouri’s roadways, we trust that every driver on the road is going to obey the speed limit, pay attention, and drive sober. “Don’t Violate The Trust.”
