EMPHASIS: OPERATION P.R.O.T.E.C.T. To Be Held In St. Louis County

Troop C has scheduled an “OPERATION P.R.O.T.E.C.T.”, which will be an eight-hour operation, utilizing eight state troopers. The enforcement effort will focus on Interstate 44 between Interstate 270 and the St. Louis City limits. Operation P.R.O.T.E.C.T. will begin at 6 p.m. on June 16, 2010, and continue to 2 a.m. on June 17, 2010.

TO ALL MEDIA OUTLETS, Please DO NOT release the location of Operation P.R.O.T.E.C.T. prior to 6 p.m. on June 16, 2010. All other information regarding this operation may be released at any time.

“OPERATION P.R.O.T.E.C.T.” identifies and prioritizes construction /work zones with critical issues or problems affecting highway safety through complaints from the general public, highway/construction workers, law enforcement, and emergency responders, to include, but not to be limited to recent crash statistics. In addition, a Zero Tolerance enforcement policy has been established for the operation as well as routine construction zone enforcement focusing on traffic violations, such as speed, following too close, other hazardous moving, and commercial motor vehicle violations. This zero tolerance policy directs troopers to take appropriate action on all observed traffic violations in construction/work zones by issuing uniform citations or warnings.
