EMPHASIS: Results Of DWI Checkpoint On August 16, 2013 In Jackson County


Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted on Friday evening, August 16, 2013. The checkpoint was a joint effort with the Kansas City Police Department. The checkpoint was held from 11 p.m. on Friday to 4 a.m. on Saturday and was located at Southwest Trafficway at 39th Street. The location was determined by past arrests, incidents, and traffic crashes in the county.

A total of 645 vehicles were stopped during this five-hour operation and members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department made the following enforcement contacts:

36 -- DWI arrests
3 -- driver’s license summonses
5 -- non-moving traffic violations
4 -- hazardous moving violations
2 -- misdemeanor drug arrests
8 -- misdemeanor warrant arrests

Captain Powell stated, "The focus of law enforcement is to enforce all laws and apprehend violators. The goal of DWI enforcement projects is to deter impaired driving and to make citizens aware that drinking and driving will not be tolerated."

The Patrol encourages motorists and watercraft operators to protect themselves by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint and everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life and Wear It!!!
