EMPHASIS: U.S. Highway 63 Construction Zone Targeted For Strict Enforcement
Captain Randy L. Becker, commanding officer of Troop I, Rolla, and Captain Billy E. Chadwick, commanding officer of Troop G, Willow Springs, announce that troopers from both troops will be participating in a joint special enforcement operation. This project will consist of troopers concentrating their efforts within the construction zone that is located on U.S. Highway 63 in southern Phelps County.
Recently three children were fatally injured in a traffic crash within that work zone when their vehicle was struck in the rear by a tractor-trailer unit. Captains Becker and Chadwick hope the presence of troopers within this area will cause motorists to slow down and pay closer attention. Excessive speed and inattention are the cause of most traffic crashes within construction and work zones. Last year six people were killed and 782 were injured in construction or work zone involved traffic crashes in Missouri. The commanding officers of both troops hope that through education and vigorous enforcement that these statistics will improve in 2008.
