EMPHASIS: March Enforcement Projects Scheduled For Troop D

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, Springfield, announces three traffic enforcement operations will be conducted sometime during the month of March 2012. A driving while intoxicated saturation will be held in Barry County. Troopers assigned to the saturation will concentrate their efforts on highways which have been found to have a higher number of alcohol-related crashes and enforcement contacts.

In addition, troopers will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint in Polk County. At the checkpoint, drivers will be stopped at a static location. Upon contact with the officers, drivers will be asked to produce their driver’s license and proof of insurance. Normally, the wait at a checkpoint is less than five minutes. Unless officers suspect drinking or other violations, most drivers will not be asked to exit their vehicles.

Finally, the Patrol will be conducting a hazardous moving violations saturation in Barry County. Assigned troopers will focus their enforcement efforts primarily in high-crash areas, with an emphasis on speed, improper lane changes, following too close, and impaired drivers.
