EMPHASIS: News Conference Will Kick Off 10th Annual Trooper Michael L. Newton Toy Drive

Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, Lee’s Summit, announces the kickoff of the 10th Annual Trooper Michael L. Newton Toy Drive. A news conference announcing the kickoff of the toy drive will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2012. The news conference will take place at Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, 8805 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Merriam, Kansas, 66202.
The Trooper Michael L. Newton Toy Drive is the cooperative effort of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Kansas Highway Patrol, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, and the citizens we serve. The drive is designed to bring smiles to the faces of children who are forced to spend the Christmas holiday season in the hospital. All donations to the toy drive will be delivered to children at KU Medical Center and the Ronald McDonald House. Troopers will deliver the toys personally to the children during the month of December.
Toy donations may be made at all metro area Krispy Kreme Doughnut stores. Krispy Kreme will again give away a free dozen doughnuts to anyone who donates a new toy with a value of at least $10. Donations of electronic games, board games, and new children’s books are encouraged.
The death of Trooper Newton left a huge void in the lives of his family, friends, and co-workers. This toy drive has proven to be a great way to honor Tpr. Newton’s memory.
