EMPHASIS: Troop D Announces Sobriety Checkpoint Results On Area Lakes

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, Springfield, announces the results of enforcement efforts on Table Rock and Pomme de Terre lakes. On Saturday, June 28, 2014, troopers conducted a sobriety checkpoint on each of the two lakes in conjunction with Operation Dry Water. Operation Dry Water is a national campaign in which marine law enforcement officers from across the country coordinate high visibility operations during the last weekend in June each year to focus on boating under the influence enforcement.

The checkpoint on Table Rock Lake was conducted in Stone County at Point Number Seven, near the Missouri Highway 13 bridge. Inclement weather shortened the effort to less than two hours. Troopers checked 62 boats, arrested one person for boating while intoxicated, and issued three boating citations and 36 warnings. In addition, officers conducted field sobriety tests on 15 boat operators.

The checkpoint on Pomme de Terre Lake was held in Hickory County at the Missouri Highway 64 bridge. Inclement weather shortened the checkpoint from five hours to three hours. Troopers stopped 34 boats, issued six warnings, and conducted field sobriety tests on eight boat operators.

In support of the "The Drive to ZERO Highway Deaths," the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in seat belt or child restraint. Watercraft operators should ensure that everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life And Wear It!!!
