EMPHASIS: Troop D Announces Results Of Sobriety Checkpoint And DWI Enforcement Saturation

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted in Webster County and a DWI saturation in Newton County on March 14, 2015. The enforcement locations were selected based on their high number of drinking and impairment-related crashes, in addition to other traffic violations that contribute to unsafe driving behavior.

Troopers, along with officers from the Webster County Sheriff's Department, stopped 533 vehicles at the sobriety checkpoint. The following is a list of enforcement contacts made during the operation:

DWI Arrests -- 5
Seat Belt Violations -- 2
Driver’s License Violations -- 7
Uninsured Motorists Violations -- 6
Non-Moving Violations -- 6
Misdemeanor Drug Arrests -- 5
Felony Drug Arrests -- 2
Felony Traffic Arrests -- 3
Misdemeanor Warrant Arrests -- 10
Felony Warrant Arrests -- 2
Recovered Stolen Vehicle -- 1

During the operation in Newton County, officers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol stopped 50 vehicles. The following is a list of enforcement contacts made during the operation:

Felony Drug Arrests -- 4

Officers also issued 70 warnings for various other traffic violations during the operation.

"The objective of DWI enforcement projects is to deter drinking and driving and to make citizens aware that drinking and driving will not be tolerated," stated Captain Villanueva. The Missouri State Highway Patrol urges all citizens to report any vehicle they observe operating in a careless manner. In support of "The Drive To ZERO Highway Deaths," the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
