EMPHASIS: Standoff In Miller County Ends

At approximately 12:30 p.m. today, a standoff in Miller County ended when two juveniles were safely removed from the residence and the subject who was wanted for questioning was fatally injured.
Charles C. Knaebel, 38, of rural Eldon, was barricaded in his residence since allegedly shooting a female neighbor and a dog Thursday evening. Knaebel also had his two juvenile children with him in the residence for the duration of the event. Missouri State Highway Patrol SWAT teams surrounded the residence while negotiators communicated with Mr. Knaebel.
A few minutes after noon today, the two juveniles exited the residence and were removed from the scene. After further communications were not successful, SWAT troopers located Mr. Knaebel inside the residence fatally injured from a apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the incident with the cooperation of the Miller County Sheriff's Office.
