EMPHASIS: Troop C July Fourth Weekend Enforcement Totals

Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, Weldon Spring, announces the 2014 July Fourth holiday weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop C area. Troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) during the holiday weekend. As an added enforcement effort, Troop C officers conducted a 20-Mile Trooper operation on Interstate 70 and Interstate 44. There were zero fatal traffic crashes on highways covered by the 20-Mile Trooper project.

The counting period began at 6 p.m., Thursday, July 3, 2014, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Sunday, July 6, 2014. Troopers investigated 53 traffic crashes in which two people died. Troopers arrested 29 people for driving while intoxicated. Troopers investigated two boating crashes which included no fatalities and four injuries, and arrested one for boating while intoxicated. Other enforcement totals are as follows:

Misdemeanor Arrests -- 78 arrests
Felony Arrests -- 14 arrests
DWI Arrests -- 29 arrests
Warnings Issued -- 1,136
Motorist Assists -- 356

“Even though this major holiday period has ended, we want to urge motorists to continue to drive safely and please take the job of driving seriously. Obey the speed limit, pay attention, buckle up, and do not drink and drive,” stated Captain Johnson.

In support of “The Drive To ZERO Highway Deaths,” the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Watercraft operators should ensure that everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life And Wear It!!!
