EMPHASIS: Troop D To Offer Certified Boating Safety Courses

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, announces opportunities for boating safety certification courses within the Troop D area.

With the 2015 boating season ending, this is a good time to become certified in boating safety before the next boating season starts. Troop D marine enforcement troopers will be available to teach the certified boating safety course at local schools or other venues established by interested groups through March 14, 2016. Schools or organizations interested in hosting a certified boating safety course are encouraged to inquire about scheduling programs in their respective areas by contacting:

Lakes north of Interstate 44: Sergeant Clay Meyer
Lakes south of Interstate 44: Corporal Michael McClure

Both may be contacted at 417-895-6868.

Missouri law requires any person born after January 1, 1984, to carry a boating safety certification card along with a picture ID anytime they operate a vessel, which includes personal watercraft, on Missouri lakes. Any student who successfully passes this course will be eligible to order the boating certification card, which costs $15.

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Join us in supporting the Drive To Zero Highway Deaths. Watercraft operators should ensure that everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life And Wear It!!
