EMPHASIS: Troop D Announces Results Of DWI Enforcement Saturation

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, announces the results of a DWI enforcement saturation in Jasper County on Saturday, January 2, 2016. The enforcement area was selected based on a high number of drinking- and impairment-related crashes, in addition to other traffic violations that contribute to unsafe driving behavior.

During the operation in Jasper County, troopers stopped 59 vehicles. The following is a list of enforcement contacts made during the operation.

Misdemeanor DWI Arrests -- 4
Speed Violations -- 7
Seat Belt Violations -- 11
Hazardous Moving Violations -- 4
Driver License Violations -- 3
Insurance Violations -- 6
Misdemeanor Drug Arrests -- 4
Felony Drug Arrests -- 2
Other Criminal Arrest -- 1

Troopers also issued 74 warnings for various other traffic violations during the operation.

"The objective of DWI enforcement projects is to deter drinking and driving and to make citizens aware that drinking and impaired driving will not be tolerated," stated Captain Villanueva.

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
