EMPHASIS: Two Burglary Suspects Arrested In Cass County Following Pursuit

On March 28, 2015, at 12:27 p.m., a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper and a Henry County deputy observed a 2012 Toyota Yaris traveling northbound on Missouri Highway 7, north of Urich, in Henry County, MO. Earlier, the vehicle fled from the Clinton, MO, Police Department during a traffic stop. The occupants were wanted in connection with a burglary in Henry County. The trooper and deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop and the driver failed to yield and fled at a high rate of speed. The vehicle traveled into Cass County, MO. A Missouri State Highway Patrol aircraft followed the suspect vehicle in the air allowing officers to back off, which resulted in the suspect slowing the vehicle. The Patrol pilot assisted in getting troopers and Cass County Sheriff’s deputies into position to successfully deploy stop sticks. The suspect vehicle’s tires became disabled and the vehicle began to travel at slow speeds, allowing troopers to get back into position to take the occupants into custody. The troopers observed the suspects throwing drug paraphernalia, credit cards, and other items out of their vehicle before finally stopping as it traveled the wrong way on Interstate 49 from Missouri 7, in Harrisonville, MO. The following two individuals were arrested at the conclusion of the pursuit and transported to the Henry County Jail:

-- Driver: Carrie L. Bates, 38, from Lee’s Summit, MO, was arrested for felony resisting arrest by flight -- creating a substantial risk, felony endangering the welfare of a child, and felony possession of a controlled substance.
-- Passenger: Jacob R. Fansler, 25, from Harrisonville, MO, was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance and three active misdemeanor warrants.

(Note: Another passenger and her infant were located in the vehicle. Both were released at the scene without further incident.)

The burglary investigation is ongoing and the following agencies assisted with the apprehension of the suspects: Clinton Police Department, Henry County Sheriff’s Department, and the Cass County Sheriff’s Department.

The charges for which the above individuals were arrested are mere accusation and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the above charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
