EMPHASIS: Significant Drug Seizure, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Troop D
On Wednesday, February 6, 2008, an eastbound 2001 Freightliner tractor-trailer was stopped by commercial motor vehicle officers for a compliance check on Interstate 44 at the 89 mile-marker, in Greene County. Due to suspicious circumstances discovered during the compliance check, CVO officers requested for a trooper to respond to the scene. After the trooper arrived, consent to search the vehicle was obtained and revealed 57 kilograms of cocaine in the trailer.
The driver, Daniel Miranda, of Phoenix, AZ, and a passenger, Javier Miranda, of Norwalk, CA, were arrested for trafficking in drugs-first degree and possession of a controlled substance. Both subjects were transported to the Greene County Jail and released to authorities.
The charges for which the above persons are accused are mere accusations and not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of these charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence.
