EMPHASIS: Results Of Marion County Sobriety Checkpoint

Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces the results of a DWI (driving while intoxicated) sobriety checkpoint in Marion County. The checkpoint was conducted by the Patrol and the Marion County Sheriff’s Department from 11 p.m. on August 15, to 3 a.m. on August 16, 2015, on U.S. Highway 24, in West Quincy, MO. The goal of the enforcement operation was to detect impaired drivers and other traffic violations that contribute to traffic crashes. As a result of the operation, officers made six arrests for driving while intoxicated, two misdemeanor warrant arrests, two misdemeanor drug arrests, and issued 11 citations and one warning. The following is a list of traffic citations issued:
3 ? Citations were issued for non-moving violations.
8 ? Citations were issued for driver’s license violations.
"The Patrol will conduct more traffic enforcement programs in the upcoming months," stated Captain Wilt. "The Missouri State Highway Patrol is very serious about removing the impaired driver from our roadways. If drinking is a part of your plans, choose a sober designated driver."
Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
