Captain Eric T. Olson, commanding officer of Troop A, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted from 11 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, to 3 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2015. The checkpoint, located on Southwest Trafficway at 39th Street, was a joint effort with the Kansas City Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff's Department. The location was determined by past arrests, incidents, and traffic crashes in the county.

A total of 949 vehicles were stopped during this four-hour operation, and members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, and the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department made the following arrests:

25 -- DWI arrests
1 -- driver’s license summons
5 -- hazardous moving violations
8 -- non-moving traffic violations
2 -- misdemeanor drug arrests
5 -- misdemeanor warrant arrests
2 -- no insurance summonses

Captain Olson stated, "The focus of law enforcement is to enforce all laws and apprehend violators. The goal of DWI enforcement projects is to deter impaired driving and to make citizens aware that drinking and driving will not be tolerated."

To report a suspected impaired driver dial 9-1-1 or *55 on a cell phone.

In support of "The Drive To ZERO Highway Deaths," the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
