EMPHASIS: Pursuit With Arrest
At 9:35 p.m. on November 16, 2010, Troop H was notified of a stolen 1999 white Jeep Cherokee taken from Maryville, MO. Troopers located the vehicle a short time later traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 71, in Nodaway County. The driver refused to stop and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit continued south on Interstate 29 at speeds ranging from 60 to 90 miles per hour. Officers from several departments deployed spike strips at different locations to slow the stolen Cherokee. The pursuit ended as the vehicle was southbound on Interstate 35 in Clay County and was unable to continue.
The driver of the stolen Cherokee was arrested and identified as Kenneth Lingar, 46, of Granby, MO. He is being charged with tampering with a motor vehicle (felony), driving while intoxicated (misdemeanor), and several traffic charges. He is currently being held in the Nodaway County Jail.
The charges for which the individual has been arrested are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
