EMPHASIS: Captain Matt Walz To Serve On National Boating Safety Advisory Council

Colonel J. Bret Johnson, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces the following:

Missouri State Highway Patrol Captain Matt Walz was sworn in as a 'state member' of the National Boating Safety Advisory Council at the 93rd meeting of the council on May 28, 2015, in Washington D.C. The National Boating Safety Advisory Council is comprised of 21 members who are appointed and serve at the pleasure of the secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The council provides advice and recommendations to that office through the commandant of the United States Coast Guard on matters relating to recreational boating safety.

Capt. Walz has served in marine law enforcement for a combined 25 years with the Missouri State Water Patrol and Missouri State Highway Patrol. He is currently serving as the assistant director of the Highway Patrol’s Water Patrol Division. In addition to his years of patrolling Missouri waterways, Capt. Walz commanded the Lake of the Ozarks region and served as the director of Training for the former Missouri State Water Patrol. In 2011, he assumed a Troop F staff position before transferring to his current position in the Field Operations Bureau at General Headquarters, Jefferson City, MO, in 2015.
