EMPHASIS: DWI Checkpoints In Jackson County, Missouri.

Captain Vincent J. Ellis, commanding officer of Troop A, announces two sobriety checkpoints will be held in Jackson County, Missouri, sometime during the month of March 2008. The checkpoints will be a joint effort conducted with the Kansas City Police Department.
The checkpoints are part of the continuing efforts of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies to remove intoxicated drivers from the highways. The checkpoints consist of officers stopping drivers at a set location and testing those who have been drinking.
In 2006, 270 persons were killed and 5,157 were injured in alcohol-related traffic crashes resulting in a death or injury every 1.6 hours.
Captain Ellis stated, “Removing intoxicated drivers continues to be a high priority for the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Our goal is to make travel on Missouri highways safer for the motoring public. If you drink alcohol, please don’t drive.”
