EMPHASIS: Results Of 2013 July Fourth Enforcement Programs Conducted By Troop B Officers

Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces the 2013 July Fourth traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop B area, which consists of 16 counties of Northeast Missouri. From July 3, 2013, through July 7, 2013, troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort). As an added enforcement effort, Troop B officers conducted a “20-Mile Trooper" project on U.S. Highways 24, 36, and 63 on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, and Sunday, July 7, 2013.
Preliminary enforcement totals show officers issued 451 citations for exceeding the posted speed limit, 105 citations for seat belt violations, and 946 warnings. Troopers made 12 arrests for driving while intoxicated and assisted 318 motorists. During the holiday period, Troop B officers investigated 27 traffic crashes in which one individual was killed and nine were injured.
“Even though this major holiday period has ended, we want to urge motorists to continue to drive safely and always wear their seat belts,” stated Captain Wilt.
The Patrol encourages motorists and watercraft operators to protect themselves by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint and everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life and Wear It!!!
