EMPHASIS: Captain Robert L. Powell To Retire September 1, 2014

Colonel Ron Replogle, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces the retirement of Captain Robert L. Powell, Troop A, after over 35 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Missouri. His retirement is effective September 1, 2014.

Captain Powell was appointed to the Patrol on July 9, 1979, as a member of the 50th Recruit Class. After graduation from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy, he was initially assigned to Troop A, Zone 3, Jackson County. He served in Jackson County and then Lafayette County until August 1, 1987, when he was promoted to corporal and designated assistant zone supervisor of Clay County. Powell was promoted to sergeant and designated zone supervisor of Zone 4, Platte County, on June 1, 1989. He was promoted to lieutenant on April 1, 1999, and assigned to the Troop D Service Center in Carthage, MO. On April 19, 2008, he was designated acting troop commander of Troop A, Lee's Summit. On July 1, 2008, Powell was promoted to captain and named troop commander of Troop A. It is from this position that he retires.

Captain Powell was born in Wichita, KS. He graduated from Diamond R-4 High School in Diamond, MO, in 1973. He earned an associate's of science degree in law enforcement at Missouri Southern State College in Joplin, MO, in 1975. He graduated from the Northwestern School of Police Staff & Command in 2001. Capt. Powell and his wife, Nannette (Kellison), have three grown children: Ryan Powell, Rebecca (Powell) Quilty, and Angela (Powell) Williams. They have six grandchildren and expect their seventh in December.
