EMPHASIS: Results Of 2012 July Fourth Enforcement Programs Conducted By Troop C Officers

Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, Weldon Spring, announces the 2012 July Fourth traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop C area. From July 3, 2012 through July 8, 2012, troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort). As an added enforcement effort Troop C officers conducted a “20-Mile Trooper Operation” on Interstate 44 and Interstate 70 on Tuesday, July 3, 2012, and Sunday July 8, 2012.

Preliminary enforcement totals show officers issued 841 citations for exceeding the posted speed limit, 310 citations for seat belt and child restraint violations, 153 citations for hazardous moving violations, and 378 citations for driver license, no insurance, and registration violations. Troopers also made 49 arrests for driving while intoxicated and 195 arrests for felony and misdemeanor offenses. There were 1,527 warnings issued and officers assisted 665 motorists. During the holiday period, Troop C officers investigated 99 traffic crashes in which two people were fatally injured.

“Even though this major holiday period has ended, we want to urge motorists to continue to drive safely and please take the job of driving seriously. Do not drink and drive, obey the speed limit, pay attention, and buckle up.” stated Captain Johnson.
