EMPHASIS: Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested In Portugal

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Savannah Police Department have conducted an international investigation regarding the 2007 bank robbery at the Nodaway Valley Bank in Savannah, MO. As a result of the investigation, a Portugal resident has been arrested and charged with the crime by authorities in Portugal. Allan G. Sharif, 29, of Visue, Portugal, will be tried in his home country in November.
Corporal Roger Phillips of the Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control will testify at the trial via video teleconference from Troop H Headquarters.
In August 2007, Allan G. Sharif extorted money from several financial institutions in the United States, Great Britain, Canada, and Switzerland by calling the banks and demanding wire transfers of money or threatening to explode the bank. These demands were made by Sharif while he was in Portugal.
