EMPHASIS: Results Of Troop A Truck Check

Captain Scott A. Shipers, commanding officer of Troop A, Lee’s Summit, announces the results of the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) truck check, which was conducted from May 5 through May 7, 2015, in Cass, Clay, Jackson, and Platte counties. This operation was conducted by commercial vehicle enforcement troopers, commercial vehicle officers, and commercial vehicle inspectors from Troops A, B, C, D, F, and H. The operation was a joint effort with officers from the Kansas City Police Department’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit.

The goal of the operation was to remove unsafe commercial vehicles and unqualified or impaired drivers from Missouri roadways. Officers set up numerous checkpoints and stopped commercial motor vehicles to conduct random driver and vehicle safety inspections. During the three-day operation, officers performed 520 inspections with 657 violations discovered. There were 27 drivers and 43 motor vehicles placed out-of-service. In addition, officers issued 95 citations.

Captain Shipers stated, “The truck checks are part of the continuing effort by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies to remove unsafe commercial motor vehicles and unqualified or impaired drivers from Missouri roadways.”

In support of "The Drive To ZERO Highway Deaths," the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Watercraft operators should ensure that everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life And Wear It!!
