EMPHASIS: Troop C Announces Results of "Operation A.R.R.E.S.T." in St. Louis County

Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer Troop C, St. Louis, is pleased to announce the results of a recent enforcement detail “Operation A.R.R.E.S.T” (Alcohol Related Response Enforcement Strike Team). The purpose of Operation A.R.R.E.S.T. is to increase the motoring public’s awareness of the potential hazards of operating a motor vehicle while in an intoxicated condition.

Operation A.R.R.E.S.T. was conducted on Friday, October 17, 2008, from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m., Saturday, October 18, 2008, in St. Louis County. This eight-hour project was conducted by six officers, who focused their enforcement efforts on identifying hazardous motor vehicle operations and impaired driving conditions, in an effort to reduce the number and severity of traffic crashes. During the operation, a total of 79 vehicles were stopped. Of those stopped, 67 arrests were made and 72 warnings were issued. Among the arrests were nine subjects for driving while intoxicated, six for drug violations, one felony weapons arrest, one felony resisting arrest, and two additional felony arrests. Additional summons issued include 13 speed violations, seven moving violations, 12 seat belt violations, and 16 non-moving violations.

Captain Johnson stated, “Impaired driving continues to contribute to traffic crashes and fatalities that occur on our roadways. Through enforcement efforts such as Operation A.R.R.E.S.T., we can continue to reduce the number of traffic crashes and fatalities that occur on our roadways. Please remember to always designate a sober driver, obey the speed limit, and make sure everyone is properly restrained in your vehicle.”
