EMPHASIS: Results Of DWI Checkpoint In Jackson County On July 2, 2010

Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted on Friday evening, July 2, 2010. The checkpoint was a joint effort with the Kansas City Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff's Department. The checkpoint was located at 4040 Main Street, in Kansas City. The location was determined by past arrests, incidents, and traffic crashes in the county.

A total of 745 cars were checked during this five-hour operation and members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department, and Jackson County Sheriff's Department made the following arrests:

20 -- DWI
4 -- driver’s license summonses
6 -- hazardous moving summonses
3 -- seat belt summonses
20 -- misdemeanor warrants
6 -- non-moving summonses
5 -- felony drug arrests
3 -- misdemeanor drug arrests
1 -- felony arrest, possession of a stolen firearm
65 -- warnings

Captain Powell urges all citizens to help law enforcement efforts to apprehend intoxicated drivers. If you suspect a motorist of driving while intoxicated or observe a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner, contact the nearest law enforcement agency.
